Shelly Mullin, RN, MHA

Shelly Mullin, RN, MHA, retired in 2017 as an executive of MultiCare Health System (MHS) after 32 years of service to the organization. She held executive positions leading Tacoma General Hospital, Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital, Allenmore Hospital, Gig Harbor Medical Center, Physician Engagement/Relations and Strategic Partnerships.  

Ms. Mullin joined MultiCare Health System (MHS) in 1986 as an RN in the Emergency Department, after completing her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Pacific Lutheran University. She worked in the Emergency Department for 13 years and eventually became the Clinical Director. In 1999, after receiving her Masters in Hospital and Healthcare Administration from the University of Washington, she was promoted to Administrative Director of MHS Surgical Services where she oversaw all business expansion and daily operations for 5 surgical sites. Ms. Mullin held key positions during the implementation of the EPIC electronic health record (EHR) at MHS which resulted in MHS being awarded in 2010 the prestigious HIMSS Davies Award recognizing excellence in the implementation and value from health information technology, specifically EHRs. She has served on the Public Policy Committee and the Strategic Planning Committee of the Washington State Hospital Association (WSHA) and participated with other WSHA members in visiting our Senators and Representatives on Capitol Hill.   

In March 2020, Ms. Mullin returned to MHA as a temporary employee to deploy a patient Triage and Transfer Center in response to COVID-19 and lead an additional strategic project supporting the work of the entire health system.
