Geneva Announces the 2017 Researcher of the Year, Vincent Ho, M.D.

Vincent Ho, M.D., Professor, Chair of the Department of Radiology and Radiological Sciences at Uniformed Services University (USU), and Chief of Radiology Services at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC), is named as The Geneva Foundation’s 2017 Researcher of the Year (ROY).

The award was presented based on Dr. Ho’s research quality, dissemination, mentorship, innovation, collaboration, and impact. “As Chief of Radiology at USU and WRNMMC, Dr. Ho has spearheaded the development of novel techniques and technological advancements in imaging that are revolutionizing the fields of medical diagnostics, preventive medicine, and targeted treatment planning,” said Geneva President Elise Huszar, in presenting the award. Dr. Ho’s research focuses on non-invasive methods for vascular imaging, tissue characterization, functional assessment, image-guided therapy/drug delivery, and bioprinting. Among his current research programs is USU’s 4-Dimensional Bioprinting, Biofabrication, and Biomanufacturing Program (4D Bio3), a collaboration between USU, Geneva, WRNMMC, and the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL), that focuses on promoting the development and application of advanced bioprinting, biofabrication, and biomanufacturing technologies for research pursuant to Department of Defense (DoD) priorities and, ultimately, for translation to clinical medical defense care and training solutions. This first-of-its-kind global bio-applications facility will advance new opportunities for enhanced diagnostics, better treatment options, and improved patient outcomes for the treatment of the warfighter and global health community.

Dr. Ho also currently manages 37 research programs in collaboration with more than 25 principal investigators across the National Capital Region. He is involved with 14 active industry-funded clinical trials and provides various radiological assessments in areas including oncology, gastroenterology, and hepatology. He co-authored more than 85 peer-reviewed publications, 140 scientific abstracts, and four books, and holds 18 U.S. patents. He has served on four journal editorial boards and is a reviewer for more than 20 scientific journals.
