MIRROR
Musculoskeletal Injury Rehabilitation Research for Operational Readiness
Leading Musculoskeletal Injury Care
Musculoskeletal injuries (MSKI) affect approximately 800,000 service members annually, resulting in 25 million days of limited duty. These injuries are the leading cause of medical discharge and downgrade, severely impacting combat readiness. To address this, the Defense Health Agency established MIRROR to provide critical infrastructure, operational support, and research to transform the treatment and preventive care of non-combat-related MSKI.
Mission
To advance MSKI care and reduce its burden on military readiness across the total force while improving capacity within the Military Health System (MHS).
Impact
The MIRROR program spearheads critical research through more than 40 studies within the MHS, addressing musculoskeletal injury care and targeted anatomical interventions. These efforts include epidemiological research, investigator-initiated pilots, and multisite clinical trials, with a focus on building robust research, education, and training infrastructures. By fostering collaborative partnerships and pursuing innovative studies, MIRROR advances clinical practice guidelines, accelerates recovery, restores operational readiness, and improves the long-term quality of life for service members—delivering exceptional care both in the field and beyond.
The Geneva Advantage
The MIRROR program is proudly supported by Geneva , which provides essential research and operational expertise to drive its success. From project management to data analysis to regulatory oversight, Geneva enables the seamless execution of over 40 clinically impactful MSKI studies within the MHS.
