San Antonio, Tex. – The Geneva Foundation (Geneva) has received $4.7 million from the U.S. Army Medical Research Acquisition Activity (USAMRAA) to support the research program titled “Development and Validation of Innate Immunome-Targeted Therapy to Create Pro-survival and Organ-Protective Phenotype After Hemorrhage at the Point of Injury.” Yansong Li, MD, MS, will lead this program and is in collaboration with The University of Texas Health Science Center.
Geneva will leverage its military medical research and program management expertise to support this important research endeavor. Geneva has experience navigating the Military Health System to accelerate research goals that meet Department of Defense (DoD) requirements.
No immunotherapy exists that directly addresses traumatic hemorrhage-induced multi-organ failure and mortality at prolonged field care and prolonged damage control resuscitation scenarios. Dr. Li’s research program will investigate four immune modulators in Phase II-III clinical trials. “We aim to find the best treatment for multi-organ failure and improve survival rates after traumatic hemorrhage, which is the leading cause of death on the battlefield due to delayed evacuation and treatment,” says Dr. Li. “Geneva continues to be a valuable partner in supporting the Warfighter. This project will improve trauma treatment and aid in future drug development.”
“Geneva is committed to supporting Dr. Li and his team in their efforts to protect our nation’s warfighters and the communities they serve,” says President and CEO Elise Huszar. “With three decades of experience in military health research, development, and education, Geneva is proud to offer excellent scientific program management to ensure Dr. Li and his team can focus on their important work. Together, we can work towards a safer and healthier future for all.”
