Aziza Mwisongo, MD, MSc, PhD

Aziza Mwisongo, MD, MSc, PhD, is a Senior Medical Officer at PATH, Centre for Vaccine Innovation and Access (CVIA). She has more than 20 years of experience in Africa and Asia on public health, health systems, monitoring and evaluation, research methods, and statistics.

Dr. Mwisongo has extensive experience with immunization programs through her leadership of the Expanded Programme on Immunization Leadership and Management Training Programme (EPI LAMP). The EPI-LAMP is a program intended to solve EPI programs through the strengthening of their leadership and management. Dr. Mwisongo is also leading countries with the decision related to Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine (TCV) where she helps navigate different aspects of the vaccine with the routine immunization systems. This support has been crucial in supporting Pakistan, Liberia, Zimbabwe, Malawi and Kenya in making their decision for TCVs. Previously, Dr. Mwisongo has served as a member of the Task Force on Immunization for the World Health Organization African region where she co-chaired and led sub-groups on routine immunization and implementation research. She has also, on behalf of the task force, attended EPI managers’ meetings and other EPI-related meetings to present and provide advice on critical areas of EPI and immunization in general.

Dr. Mwisongo is a passionate teacher and currently serves as an Adjunct Associate professor at the Department of Global Health at the University of Washington.
