Kenneth Bertram, MD, PhD, COL (Ret.), USA
Army Colonel (Ret.) Kenneth Bertram, MD, PhD, FACP, is the Clinical Product Development Officer for the Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine, Winston-Salem, NC. Dr. Bertram retired in June 2018 as the Principal Assistant for Acquisition for the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command (USAMRMC), Ft. Detrick, MD, and as a member of the Senior Executive Service. In this position, he was responsible for the advanced development and acquisition of medical products (drugs, vaccines, and devices) for the U.S. Army. Dr. Bertram served as The Army Surgeon General’s Sponsor’s Representative to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and as the U.S. Army’s Milestone Decision Authority (MDA) for medical products.
Dr. Bertram retired as Colonel after a 24-year career in the U.S. Army. Colonel Bertram’s assignments included: Commander, Walter Reed Army Institute of Research; Chief of Staff, USAMRMC; Director, Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs USAMRMC; and Chief, Hematology/Medical Oncology Service at Madigan Army Medical Center (MAMC). Colonel Bertram’s military honors include two Legion of Merit awards, the Army’s Surgeon General’s “A” Proficiency Designator in Hematology/Oncology, and the Order of Military Medical Merit.
Dr. Bertram completed both his Hematology/Medical Oncology Fellowship and Internal Medicine Residency at MAMC and received his M.D. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Minnesota.
Dr. Bertram also currently serves as the Medical Director for the Center for Defense Medicine (Saint Louis, MO), as the Chief Medical Officer for Echelon Med Tech (Saint Louis, MO), on the Scientific Advisory Board for BioBridge Global (San Antonio, TX) and as a Senior Science Advisor to the Military Technology Enterprise Consortium (MTEC; Summerville, SC).
