Join the Conversation with Dr. Dye

Members of Geneva’s Board of Directors, community leaders, and research partners gathered at the Fircrest Golf Club in Fircrest, Washington for Geneva’s 5th Join the Conversation event. The event featured Dr. John M. Dye Jr., the recipient of Geneva’s 2016 Researcher of the Year Award. As the Chief of Viral Immunology within the Virology Division at the United States Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID), Dr. Dye oversees the execution of research programs with the aim to counteract the Ebola virus and other high-risk pathogens.

Welcome remarks were given by Geneva’s Founder and Chief Strategy Officer Jane Taylor, Marketing & Communications Manager Allison Connelly, and Senior Grants & Contracts Manager Audra Earl. Dr. Dye gave a powerful presentation on his groundbreaking infectious disease research at USAMRIID, with a focus on the various Ebola virus strands, including the Zaire and Sudan strands, Geneva’s particular area of support. The presentation concluded with closing remarks by Geneva’s Board Chairman Mike W. Hansch.

At the event, Dr. Dye shared a personal view of the benefits of working throughout the year at both a Biosafety Level (BSL-4) Facility at USAMRIID and at the Uganda Virus Research Institute in Africa. Dr. Dye spoke with an impassioned perspective of focusing on the Ebola epidemic’s survivors and his hope to develop future protections against the devastating infectious diseases.
