Influencing Defense. Impacting Change
In 2024, Geneva strengthened its presence on Capitol Hill, working directly with policymakers to champion defense research priorities that reflect the real needs of service members and military medical teams. Through embedded expertise and strategic engagement, Geneva continues to shape policies that advance innovation, readiness, and health outcomes across the Military Health System.
Engaging Policymakers
Geneva’s Board of Directors and Senior Leadership met with congressional delegations on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., including policymakers from Texas, North Carolina, Maryland, Virginia, and Washington State. Geneva leadership emphasized the critical importance of securing defense appropriations to sustain and expand research programs that deliver operationally relevant health solutions.
Priorities, when speaking to congressional leaders, emphasized musculoskeletal injury prevention, sustaining the Department’s biotechnology capabilities, and advancing therapies in regenerative medicine, reinforcing Geneva’s role in advancing military medical innovation.
Strengthening Advocacy Leadership
Building on recognition in the 2014 National Defense Authorization Act, Geneva’s Advocacy Committee continues to guide strategic engagement to ensure that research supporting the health and readiness of service members remains a national priority.
Geneva’s Advocacy Committee
Geneva’s Advocacy Committee, operating under the Board of Directors, is instrumental in crafting our advocacy strategies. The committee is composed of leaders with extensive backgrounds in various fields relevant to military medicine, including medical research management, policy-making, and legal frameworks within the military medical enterprise. Members bring a wealth of experience from high-level positions across military and civilian sectors, ranging from direct command in combat zones to strategic roles in military healthcare, research, and medical product development. This collective expertise empowers the committee to effectively shape Geneva’s advocacy initiatives and navigate complex policy environments to advance our mission.
