Geneva Employee Spotlight: Jennifer D. Treviño, MBA
Celebrating 10 Years of Impact in Combat Casualty Care Research
This fall marks 10 years since I joined The Geneva Foundation. I’ve had the privilege of working alongside some of the most dedicated investigators, clinicians, and researchers in military medicine, all focused on a shared goal of improving care for the Warfighter.
As a Geneva Program Manager, I help guide projects that are shaping the future of combat casualty care. From early proposal development to final deliverables, I manage every phase of a research award. My role is to make sure every objective is met, every milestone achieved, and every project delivered with excellence, not just by tracking progress, but by being directly involved in data collection, regulatory submissions, study coordination, and strategic planning.
More than anything, I take pride in being someone my team can rely on. Whether it’s investigating and resolving data-related issues, prepping for a site audit, or making sure our next publication meets the deadline, I stay committed, knowing the details make the difference.
Recent Work That Drives Me
One of the projects I’m especially proud of is the Deployed HEROES (Hemostatic Emergency Resuscitation of Traumatic Exsanguinating Shock) Study, a $2+ million initiative examining resuscitation practices in deployed settings over 18 years. This study led to the development of the first and largest DoD integrated blood transfusion database. We developed the data abstraction tool, identified patients who met criteria, and created a resource to capture not only which blood products were used, but also the exact timing of each transfusion during the first six critical hours after injury. This level of detail provides clinicians and researchers with knowledge that can directly inform future care.
I’m also proud of our recently completed Epidemiology of Combat Ocular Injury Study. We met all our goals and published two peer-reviewed manuscripts. Ocular injuries can have a lasting impact on service members’ quality of life. This research helps clinicians and researchers respond with better care.
Looking Ahead
As we wrap up the final year of the Deployed HEROES study, I’m focused on finishing strong, meeting every deliverable, closing every loop, and ensuring our work reflects the highest level of scientific and operational quality. At the same time, I’m helping build the next generation of research proposals, expanding on the momentum we’ve created.
I’m also excited to share our research findings and data-driven results through upcoming presentations and publications to drive change and ultimately improving care.
Publications That Reflect the Impact
Here are a few of the recent studies I’ve had the opportunity to contribute to:
- Disability Weights Using a Web-based Survey Among Military Service Members – Military Medicine (2025)
- Disability-Adjusted Life Years Resulting from Ocular Injury – Ophthalmology (2024)
- 24-hour Mortality by Unit of Blood Product Transfused in Combat Casualties – Journal of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery (2023)

A Decade In, Still Inspired
Ten years with Geneva has taught me that progress in military medicine doesn’t happen overnight. It takes persistence, teamwork, and a willingness to keep showing up, and it’s the mission and the people that make it all worthwhile.
I’m grateful for every opportunity I’ve had, and I’m excited for what’s next.
