The Geneva Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Dan Siegal as the Executive Director of the Uniformed Services University (USU) Center for Biotechnology (4D Bio3), located in Rockville, MD.
4D Bio3 promotes the development and application of advanced biotechnologies and services within the DoD to enhance the readiness, health, and well-being of America’s Warfighters, veterans, and families today through Research & Engineering (R&E), Education & Training, and Transition (Commercialization).
As Executive Director, Dr. Siegal will serve as a senior leader responsible for promoting a collaborative environment that advances the Center’s research, education, and outreach missions. He will oversee diverse operational, fiscal, and programmatic functions, guide strategic partnerships, and work closely with Dr. Vincent Ho, the 4D Bio3 Center Director, to implement innovation-driven initiatives benefiting the Warfighter. Dr. Siegal will also serve as a liaison between Geneva, USU leadership, and external collaborators, while managing and mentoring multidisciplinary teams.
Dr. Siegal joins Geneva with an impressive background in synthetic biology, biotechnology program development, and federal research strategy. Most recently, he served as Director of Business Partnerships at Ginkgo Bioworks, where he led successful government program development efforts. He has also held scientific and leadership roles at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory and served as a technical advisor at DARPA, where he supported over $300M in high-risk, high-reward biotechnology programs.
Dr. Siegal earned his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Chicago and holds an Executive Master’s in Leadership from Georgetown University. In addition to his technical expertise, he is a passionate science communicator and advocate, having worked closely with leaders in the DoD research community to advance R&E priorities, as well as regularly serving as a subject matter expert for government affairs professionals briefing congressional staff on the importance of sustained R&E funding. His collaborative leadership style and strong scientific vision make him an ideal addition to the 4D Bio3 team.
Please join us in welcoming Dr. Dan Siegal to The Geneva Foundation and in supporting his leadership of the USU Center for Biotechnology.
