Dr. Alt-White has over twenty years of nursing and research oversight experience with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Currently, she is the Director for Research and Evidence-Based Programs in the Office of Nursing Services. Her three major responsibilities include: (1) building capacity for high quality research that informs evidence based nursing practice and science; (2) creating an environment of inquiry wherein nurses apply the best available evidence to improve healthcare delivery and outcomes; and (3) advancing nursing academic-practice and inter-professional partnerships internal and external to the VA. She focuses on mentoring the next generation of nurse scientists and developing educational materials for health professionals, patients and their families.
She serves on the National Institute of Nursing Research’s Advisory Council and committees of the American College of Colleges of Nursing. She has been a member and officer on nonprofit boards, professional associations and alumnae associations, most recently the Honor Society of Nursing: Sigma Theta Tau, International and the Johns Hopkins University Alumnae Council and Executive Committee. She holds an adjunct faculty appointment at the Uniformed Service University of the Health Sciences. Prior to government services she was a faculty member at the Catholic University of America. Dr. Alt-White earned her bachelor’s degree from Johns Hopkins University, her MSN from the Catholic University of America, and her PhD from the University of Maryland and Baltimore. She is a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing.
